- Rainfall – spring has been off and on rainy, but fall was quite dry.
- Temperature – the lake stays cold at the bottom if no storms occur to mix the water up.

A. Water skiing Issue
On Oct 23, five of 6 Park Commissioners recommended ending the special permit allowing waterskiing on Green Lake (the Board President only votes to break a tie). The Parks Board received and reviewed 170 comments on the issue. On Oct 27, Superintendent Gallagher agreed with the Board and ended the special permit, meaning there are no exceptions to the Seattle Municipal Code: power boats can be on Green Lake only to protect human safety and for rescues. Supt Gallagher sent a Thank-you letter to FOGL, which Ellen put on the website.

A. Water Inputs to Green Lake
Richard Fleming, FOGL
- Local street drains around Green Lake empty into the combined sewers and bypass the lake. Most water entering Green Lakes comes from rain on the lake surface. Storm water entering Green Lake comes via the Densmore Drain. The Densmore Drain carries runoff from as far north as Bitter Lake and from along Aurora Ave to the City boundary at N 145th. The Densmore Drain overflows into Green Lake after long or intense storms.

A. Monitoring report
Richard Fleming
Monitoring Committee Report: Richard reported there had been little rainfall but that total rain for the water year (Oct-Sept) was comparable to prior years because of the 3+inches that fell during the Dec. 2-3 storm. The Level 2 monitoring from kayaks has begun for 2008. He and Gayle collect water quality samples on alternating Monday mornings from two mid-lake stations, one in front of the Hearthstone, where the Lake is deepest, and another south of Duck Island, where the weed-harvester used to be moored. Water temperatures increased from 13C (55F) on May 5 to 17C (63F) on May 19. Secchi depths decreased from 3.4 m (11.2 ft) to 2.8 m (9.2 ft). Graphing these data show they are comparable to data collected at this time in previous years (2005-2007). Ellen asked Richard to forward the graphs for the website.

A. Five years of Green Lake Monitoring – What can it tell us?
Sally Abella (King County Small Lakes Stewardship Program)
- FOGL volunteers began sampling as part of King County Small Lakes Progarm in 2003 taking water level, Secchi depth and temperature weekly at the end of the dock by paddleboat rental (Level 1 sampling). These data have been collected by Billings Middle School students and their teacher, Rebecca Timson, for the past year. In 2005 FOGL added Level 2 sampling, water samples are collected at two mid-lake stations (by Richard and Gayle using kayaks) and the samples are analyzed at the Metro water quality laboratory. These samples are collected 12 times each summer, about every other week from May through Oct. Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) funds Green Lake’s participation in the program.

A. Monitoring report
Richard Fleming
- December 2-4, 2007 – 6 inches of rain fell in 40 hours (3.7 inches in 4 hours on the morning of December 3).
- Photos show water gushing out of the Densmore Drain; the grate fastenings were bowed and the SW grate corner was loosened. It looks like sediment that washed out of the drain was deposited as a 2 ft deep delta near the SE corner of the vault.
