Green Lake Monitoring – July 29, 2019

Secchi Depth: 2.7 Meters (8.9 feet)
Water Temp: 23.0 degrees C (73.4 degrees F)

Lake Water Quality is monitored weekly by Jeffrey Howard at East Green Lake from the T-dock near the Green Lake Community Center. The weekly data are reported quarterly and uploaded to the King County Lakes website available here. Select “Green-1” and “View Data”. General lake information, water quality data, and reports are available here.

For continuous Green Lake Water Level and Temperature Gauge data tracked by King County, go to the King County Hydrologic Information Center website where you can search for both temperature (in C) and lake elevation. Here are instructions:
1. Click on either Water Temperature or State Only Gage to get a map of monitoring sites.
2. Click on the red dot at Green Lake.
3. Click on View Graph. (The graph is currently being updated to improve visibility.) More data selections are listed left of the graph.

Friends of Green Lake Meeting, Tuesday July 23, 2019, Hearthstone

Convened at 7:00 PM

Following around the table introductions, Rob Z chaired the meeting.

RZ began with a recap of our FOGL-Suggested projects for Parks Improvements/Additions.
RZ will engage in a discussion with David Graves/SP&R, to be accompanied by Brian DeLuca and others as a joint meeting, date TBD. JH offered to attend/assist.
RZ’s top three topics on FOGL’s list are:

  • The East Shore Turtle Log Viewing Platform, about 150 yards North of the Small Crafts Center.
  • The Bio-Enhancing floating gardens, as several may be located around the lake.
  • The Paved Path Location Markers, to enable park patrons to advise first responders on their location of need, when calling 911 for immediate assistance, e.g. injury, accident, Police etc.

Mentioned was eliciting support of Local Area Volunteer organizations to support FOGL and the work of Seattle City Government’s Parks District Board.

Saturday July 13 at 9 AM  for Weeding and Watering Fun

We will be focusing on much needed weeding and watering on our west side restoration area .

Meet:  Beside the Aqua Theater at the east end of the Small Craft Center

Dress for dirty work, wear close-toed shoes and bring a bottle of water.
