Following around-the-table introductions, Rob Z chaired the meeting.
RZ discussed Cyanotoxin in Green Lake and Anatoxin-A (a liver toxin-not currently in Green Lake) as concerns for pets and swimmers. For dogs, a serious concern is when they lick their fur after a swim in the lake.
RZ gave a detailed presentation about the floating gardens concept for providing habitat for birdlife and underwater cleansing properties. Details are seen on the FOGL website, under a link titled: “Floating Wetlands” < https://friendsofgreenlake.org/floating-wetlands-project/ >.
Martin Muller, a local Seattle expert ornithologist and frequent examiner of Green Lake environs, has reviewed and endorsed this project.
Charts for milfoil concentrations were displayed.
Funding sources were discussed, to include Seattle Parks & Recreation + private donations. Mike Plympton, SP&R, addressed Summer & Winter swimming/boating/dogs concerns.
RZ comment:
If 2020 is another bad year, we need to study another corrective action beside Alum.
Noted was the ongoing effect of Commercial Development in the Green Lake Village, on its impact on ground water flow to the lake.
Derrick Rivers noted the lake shore quality work done, for milfoil cleanup, by:
Girl Scouts, Blanchett and Roosevelt High School Students,
Phinney Ridge Community Center.
AP provided updates on the Paved Path Safety Marker project.
JS noted the Secchi Disk visibility readings, as recorded on the FOGL website.
