Come to a Green Lake Work Party Saturday, December 8th, 9AM to Noon!

Thanks for coming to the November Work Party!  Here’s the scoop on December:
Date:  December 8, 2018
Time:  9 to Noon
Meet:  East End of the Small Craft Center Docks, near the old Aqua Theater and the Pitch and Putt Golf Course.  Look for wheelbarrows, tools, signs and people wearing orange vests.

We will be grubbing out invasive non-native Himalayan Blackberry Vines (which are actually Armenian, not Himalayan, but that is another story) along the west side of the lake adjacent to where West Green Lake Way North merges with Aurora Avenue North.  This will be muddy work.  Dress for weather.  Wear close-toed shoes. Bring a bottle of water.

If you would like to join us you can register at:  https://seattle.greencitypartnerships.org/event/14844/
or RSVP at:  greenlakestewards@gmail.com
Questions?  Call Rob Hutcheson at 206-854-1654.  You can also find more information on Green Lake Stewards Work Parties on Friends of Green Lake Calendar at any time.

King County representatives Dana W, John A, and Debra B provided a comprehensive discussion regarding King County’s University Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) Project. They proved flyers describing the essence of the project whose information can be seen at: < www.kingcounty.gov/protectingourwaters >. Topics of interest to the immediate FOGL area are the surface runoff and subsurface water movement coming Easterly from Phinney Ridge and the effects of East shore area major construction projects. JA highlighted construction and installation of water absorbing structures along parking strips. He noted that standard unaltered lawns are generally not good absorbers of heavy rain events. RZ noted the heavy outflow from the lake’s Densmore during recent heavy rain events. JA acknowledged the high local interest in lake water quality, citing Seattle Public Utilities as the best source of information. GG would like information on how the different soil geologies around the lake affect deep ground water movement. RZ queried on the level of monitoring of effects of the Link Light Rail tunnel to North Gate.

The Hinckley-Jardine family invites you to consider making a donation to Friends of Green Lake in memory of their brother and son, Taiga Hinckley. One of his favorite activities was kayaking and spending time on the lake, and he was a beloved fixture in the neighborhood.
